MAC Monday #4 :Vegas Volt

MAC Vegas Volt, a gorgeous amplified creamy coral and a lipstick that I had on my wishlist for what seemed like a lifetime before I eventually got around to buying it, it is such a beautiful colour that even though I rarely steer away from my pinky/peach nude lip colour I wanted to own this if only to look at it, does anyone else have lipsticks that they do this with?

Vegas Volt has now been in my lipstick collection for around 2 years and I have found that I have gotten a lot more wear out of it than I thought I would.
Last Monday I was having a scruffy bun, can't be bothered kind of day (you know the ones?) where eye-make up was kept to just mascara, I applied only a light layer of foundation and a bit of bronzer, these are the days that I find it easier to get away with a bolder lip colour, also having a bright pop of colour on the lips makes it look like I have made a little more effort with my Make-up than I really have.

Face: Rimmel wake me up foundation (200 soft beige)
Benefit Hoola bronzer
Eyes: Max factor eye brightening mascara
Lips: MAC Vegas Volt
Eyebrows: clearly ignored :o

Please excuse the dodgy pose, I think I have some kind of mild mental disorder when it comes to pouting at cameras!

I hope you are all having a good Monday!

Face of the day: Impassioned for Sunday shopping

Phew that was a mouthful of a title wasn't it? I'm not gonna lie to you I had to google the word 'impassioned' just to check that I was using it in the right context. I wonder if Corrie would like to give me her blog name (Dizzy brunette) ;)

As you may have noticed I don't often do FOTD post's mainly because I can never take a decent photo of myself (woe is me) but today I persevered with it just so I could show you my new foundation and unusually bright lips, luckily I had a good 20 minutes of posing time while my boyfriend was driving us to town.
What I wore...
Face
Jemma Kidd Light as air foundation (shade 03)
Laura Mercier universal setting powder
Sleek contour kit bronzer (light)
MAC Mineralize skin finish (soft and gentle)

Eyes
Urban Decay naked palette shades Half baked, Dark horse and sin.
Bourjois volumizer mascara (only step one)
Maybelline gel eyeliner
Vivo cosmetics eyebrow kit to fill brows

Lips
MAC Impassioned lipstick
Barry M lipgloss (which has no number but it's the baby pink one)

Blogging has taught me so many things and today's lesson was that taking photo's of yourself in a car doing 50mph on bendy, uneven country lanes is not the best idea, never have I been so pleased to get stuck behind a tractor doing 3mph in my life!

This lipstick is the reason I wanted to post a FOTD today, it is perhaps the most beautiful colour lipstick that I have ever seen in my life. Admittedly in the many months I have owned it, I haven't given it nearly the attention that it deserves and bypassed it 99.9% of the time in favour of some nude or pale pink.Wuss.
Yes this is bright but with a more natural face and subtle eye it work's so well and I didn't feel at all conspicuous mooching around the shops this afternoon. In fact it made me feel pretty good :)
I added the Barry M lipgloss as my lips are suffering with the change in seasons and Impassioned is not the most forgiving shade on dry lips.

I had to pop into town today to take back a top from Topshop that made me look like a brick. I'm not good at taking things back, I have to have something else and it's usually something more expensive...

Rhinestone Earth burnout Tunic Tee £24 Topshop
I was instantly drawn to this tunic t-shirt, charcoal grey is one of my favourite colour's to wear and the beautiful rhinestone detailed motif just sealed the deal, I cant wait to wear it with my black skinny jeans and (beloved) Allegra boots, which by the way were sold out today in my local Topshop so I'm really chuffed that I picked them up when I did! I just re-read that and it was perhaps a tad dramatic kind of like I'm thinking I got the last pair on Earth or something..Oh dear!
I also picked up this cute little string bracelet with a wishbone charm for £2 which goes to the Centrepoint charity for homeless youngsters.

Next stop Primark...
Grey pleated skirt £10.00 Primark
As soon as I spotted this skirt I was all over it. It's Grey, It's pleated and its only jolly well wooly!! Admittedly in this picture it looks like it hangs a bit funny and I can't tell you otherwise as of yet having not tried it on, but Im keeping my fingers firmly crossed because the concept is just wonderful!!

Black/Gold belt £2.50 Primark

D'ya know I think that a belt is possibly the most boring thing to photograph, apologies if this picture bores you, I debated not putting it in but what the hey it's the weekend let's go wild!
I have been loving Black and Gold accessories lately and the Gold chain detail just made this belt stand out for me as something a little different and so into the basket it went.

So that was my Sunday, ooh I also popped in to see my Nan as it's her birthday today I bought her a Cliff Richard book and this shopping bag as she's a huge TOWIE fan lolzzz...

Her reaction was "oh my God, Im going shopping on Tuesday I can't wait to take this out!"
Not your average Nan I tell you! ;)

Wow it's Xfactor time that has come around quick, I can't wait to see Jessie J!
Hope you have all had a lovely weekend

F/EOTD: Diana Vickers Collection 2000 inspired Make-up

Hey Girls,
The other day I got the new issue of more magazine, not sure if 27 make's me too old for it but I still love it, in fact it's the only magazine that I buy on a regular basis, In my head I am totally still 18!

Anyway the reason I'm drivelling on about a magazine is that, while flicking through, not to giggle at Barbie and Ken doing position of the week,I might add ;) I noticed a rather bright advert for Collection 2000's new pump up the volume mascara featuring Diana Vickers (The new face of the brand) The make-up, I thought looked stunning and it was instantly something I wanted to recreate myself.

Image from DianaVickersDaily.com
Another mascara ad with obvious falsies WHY?

No Lash inserts or dramatisations have been used in this photo ;p
Although it would look better with lashes lol

Sorry for the shoddy webcam picture, I find it so hard to take a decent picture of my face with my camera any tips would be hugely appreciated :D

I know that Yellow eye make-up is not everyone's cup of tea, and I never pick a yellow to wear on my eyes, although with this look I think the smokiness under the lower lashes and warm brown in the socket help to make it wearable. I honestly really loved wearing this look out last night, it was so nice for a change, and it's definitely something I will wear again with pleasure!

Righty then, I'm off for homemade pizza at my Mum and Dad's house now, so naughty but so amazing! My mouth is actually watering at the thought of it! Also very excited that it's The Batchelor night tonight, any other Batchelor fans out there? Who do you think he will pick? I was thinking Layla but it's looking more and more like he will pick Carrie-Anne...urgh... me no likey xxx

In case you want to watch me waffle on while I Diana-fy
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Kim Kardashian wedding make-up inspired look

I Can't say that im loving posting a picture of my moon-esque face next to one of the most beautiful women on earth haha! But I am a huge Kim K fan and thought that she looked so stunning as a bride, so I stalked Kim's MUA's blog (thanks to George's tip off!) found the exact products he used on her and then recreated it as close as I could from his description and pictures, using similar products from my own collection because I literally had nothing he used *sob*. I am surprised that there are no mentions of Kim wearing false lashes on Mario Dedivanivic's blog as it certainly looks as though she has a right whopping pair on, but he claims to have only used Lancome hypnose Doll eyes mascara on Kim's lashes.

Products I used
Face
Liz Earle skin tint (med)
Mixed with
MAC Face and body foundation (C6)
Benefit erase paste (shade light)
Laura Mercier invisible loose setting powder
Benefit Coralista blush
Benefit Hoola bronzer
MAC MSF Soft and Gentle (to highlight)

Eyes
MUA Gold from the dusk til dawn palette
VIE ready to wear e/s quad (pale gold to highlight brow bone)
MAC Woodwinked
MAC Bronze
MAC MSF Soft and Gentle (to highlight tear duct)
Loreal Carbon gloss liquid liner
Loreal Telescopic mascara
Kimberley Girls aloud lashes

Lips
A Sheer peach shade from a kryolan lip palette
GOSH lip gloss (0082) A peachy/coral colour

If you haven't already but want to see the actual product's that were used on Kim on the day check out Mario's blog here

I hope you are all having a great Sunday! Im typing this and half watching Nacho libre I love Jack Black but I think this looks a bit crap tbh, maybe I just need to pay attention! :)

MUA 'Dusk til dawn' Pro palette:Simple coloured smoky EOTD

What a mouthful of a title that was! EOTD would probably have sufficed, oh well!
Today my hand spazzed out and bypassed the Naked palette in favour of the MUA pro Dusk til Dawn one, which has seen very little love in the couple of months that I've owned it. In fact truth be told I swatched it for a blog post, popped it into my palette drawer and forgot all about it!
what big eyes you have!

Products used
MAC Paintpot-Painterly as a primer
Gold colour bottom row, far left all over lower lid taken into the tear duct and just past the crease.
Turquoise middle, bottom row all over lower lid (excluding tear duct) up to crease.
Deep Purple, bottom row blended up to crease on the outer 2/3rd of eye.
Turquoise and purple colours both used under lower lashline.
Loreal telescopic mascara.
Urban decay 24/7 eyeliner (zero) along waterline.

If that makes sense "/

Hello humidity frizz (what's with the weather?)

S'cuse the dodgy FOTD I know it's a little whited out and bos eyed, but I wanted to show how I wore this look as a daytime smoky keeping the rest of my make-up as natural as possible, using just Chanel Pro lumiere foundation and MAC creme cup lipstick. It felt like a no blush/bronzer/highlighter kind of day and it's so damn hot and sticky in the UK at the moment I really couldn't be bothered faffing around.
With a pair of false lashes and extra eyeliner this could also be taken into a night-time smoky eye.
Let me know what you think girls, and also which other MUA Pro palettes are worth picking up?

A l'il FOTD

Hey girls, firstly I'm chuffed to bits that my blog has reached almost 200 readers! Thanks so much everyone im really grateful! Another thing I would like to say is that as it is the school holidays and my son is off for a fortnight ive found it hard to spend as much time on my blog and feel that my last couple of posts were a bit rushed and not as well organised as I would like them to be, so thank you for bearing with me!  :)

Anyway enough gushing! On to the FOTD...

Products used:
 Chanel Pro Lumiere foundation
MAC MSF natural medium plus
MAC MSF soft and gentle to highlight cheek and brow bones
Nars Deep throat blush
MAC Paintpot in painterley on lower lid
MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow on lower lid
Barry M brown eyeliner pencil on top and bottom waterline and top lashline
Loreal Telescopic mascara
MUA brunette brow pencil
MAC Hue lipstick

I have been really loving Pro Lumiere foundation (which is typical because it is being discontinued!) for the past couple of weeks as my skin has been pretty normal as opposed to its usual dry state, I haven't been drinking any extra water or eating extra healthy so im putting it down to using the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser, the Oilatum dry skin repair cream, and VIE clear thoughts night cream which is so thick and moisturising, I cant believe i have never used a night cream before. I feel like my skin has been really benefiting from all of these things. Does anybody else use a night cream?

Anyway that was a bit of a quick ramble but I hope you like it :)
I will be doing a review of Nars Deep throat blush soon as im in love with it <3

FOTD & Chanel Ombres de perlees disappointment

Hey Girls,
Hope you are all having a great (sunny) weekend!

As I don't really have anything particularly new to review I thought I'd post a FOTD from our family sunday lunch (which was at Frankie and Benny's because the carvery was heaving!) and sadly a bit of a rant/ramble...

Camera close up=Moody face  ;)
Camera far away=Happy face ;)
Products used :
FACE
NARS Sheer Glow foundation 'Deauville'
W7 Bronzer 'Africa'
VIE Skin dew highlighter
LIPS
NARS Lipgloss 'Scandal'
I was expecting a hot peach/coral shopping online=disappoining
But I'm liking this non the less :)

Applied sheer (and grumpy by the looks of it hehe)

(iphone)Swatch, there is no glitter in this product, its on my hand for some reason

EYES
Chanel Ombres de perlees palette
Maybelline One by One Volum' express mascara
MAC Powerpoint eye pencil 'bordeauxline'

As you can see It has been given a pretty fair trial, not sure what the specks are on the mirror??
I have waited a while to give a review of the 'ombres de perlees' palette which is Chanel's Limited edition spring 2011 palette, when I first bought it,it was Love at first swatch, and as you can see I've had a fair bit of use out of it.
The reason I am disappointed is that compared to the first swatch, where I fell for the colours, which are incredibly beautiful and swatched like butter on hot toast,I just cannot seem to get the same effect on my eyes,no matter which way I use them. The colour payoff is incredibly disappointing.
VERY heavily swatched, the colours are beautiful but sadly do not apply to my eye in the same way :(

The shadows are all pearlised and go on very sheer even the darker colours need a really good building up to get a slightly strong colour.
I have tried applying them with every make and model of brush possible,my fingers,I even used the sponge applicators which were included!!I've used them wet and dry,as a base for other shadows and layered on top of my other shadows(which has proved to be the most successful)....Nothing makes these stand out for me!
I also find that my eyelids  feel dry after a few hours wear.
I'm gutted about this, especially as I paid over £30 for what I was expecting to be the HG eyeshadow palette!!
On the eye So dull!!! Dammit!!

I intend to find a way of getting the best out of the ombres palette, maybe I just have weird eyes??
If not it'll have to be ebay for this baby :'(

Has anybody else got any disappointing products to rant about?

NARS Sheer glow-Natural FOTD

Hey Girls,
Dare I say it? I think I found my HG Foundation yesterday when my good old postman delivered NARS Sheer Glow foundation to my door.

I was going to wait to review this foundation but I have already had so many compliments with it that I just cant keep it to myself! My Best friend came round for her shoe (that's a long drunken story!!) and the first thing she said was 'oh my god your face looks amazing!' Then a woman at school told me I looked like a Doll, I'm assuming this was a compliment and she didn't mean 'Chucky' or something!?!

Anyway, I have been  ooking for a medium coverage foundation that would give me a luminous finish without being shiny or attaching to any dry patches I might have, and had heard so many good things about this foundation. So the other night did a pretty stupid thing by ordering online without colour matching the foundation to my skin, and just guessing by looking at ASOS' swatch chart, but luckily got it spot on phew!!!! I ordered 'Deauville' which is an almost exact colour match to MAC Studio fix NC20(winter months) my old HG foundation.

'Sheer glow' is a bit of a misleading name for it as it isn't too sheer, although it is buildable and it doesn't give a luminous finish,in fact it's a semi matte finish but a Matte that gives radiance and doesn't accentuate pores. It also lasts all day, I applied it at 10am and at 7pm it was as perfect as when first applied.

So far as you can probably tell, I love this foundation and cannot find fault with the formulation or finish,it applies and blends into skin beautifully using fingertips, and unless you are using this on a client then there is really no need for a brush/or sponge. As I have only been using it for 2 days I will definitely keep you updated if anything changes, and I find that I don't get along with it (oh my god I hope not!!)

I would say that Sheer glow would be perfect for Oily or Normal/dry skins although it is marketed towards people with Normal/dry skin.

NARS 'Sheer glow' is available in various department stores throughout the UK
and online at:
 ASOS

Price £29.50 for 30ml.

I'd love to know what your HG foundations are, and also if anyone uses Sheer Glow your thoughts on it?
